Yes, it will work. The PS3 uses a standard 2.5″ laptop hard drive. Perfectly interchangeable with another one. Simply remove the 60GB one, install your 2.5″ 200GB hdd, turn the PS3 on, then go into Settings / Format Utility options, and format the new drive. As simple as that.

I recently ordered a customizable laptop from Toshiba, and the expected ship date is on Thursday (6/7/07). I selected the 2nd Day Air shipping option. Will I receive my order on Friday or Monday? Is it possible it will come in Saturday?
It has not shipped yet so I don’t have a tracking number. I wasn’t sure what the 2nd day shipping option meant. I thought maybe that 2nd day meant that the first day would be Thursday and the second day Friday.

What is supposed to be better?

2 gig come in 1 stick and for the other one 1 gig in 2 stick understand?

One is a set of 2 1024 MB strips of Ram.

The other is a single strip of 2048 Mb ram.

The first is 2gbs of Memory separated into two sticks. The other is a single stick of 2gb memory. This means that if your laptop only has two memory slots, the first option will fill both. Go with the later, and you can upgrade your ram later with a similar stick, without having to throw out two otherwise useless sticks of ram.

Both essentially offer the same thing- same amount of RAM run at the same speed.

The difference is one occupies two RAM slots(2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SDRAM (1024MBx2), while the other(2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz) occupies one- allowing for an additional stick of RAM.

Depending on what you do, and which Operating System you use, more RAM may or may not benefit you.

If you’re a multitasker, more RAM will boost your system performance, allowing you to open more programs at the same time without slowing down system speed. If you’re not, you probably won’t notice any difference.

In addition, window xp can only recognize up to 4gb of RAM, whereas window vista (or any other 64bit OS) can recognize 16gb of RAM. Anyway, if your laptop uses vista and allows for more RAM, the 2gb stick may be better, since you can use the empty RAM slots for additional RAM(same goes for xp, but to a lesser degree).

Just for the record, it is called a numberpad. And yes, the laptop does have a numberpad although I would not recommend this laptop.

Building your own computer from scratch has become quite popular, and Bieng one of these people I came to wonder: With Laptops soon about to outsell desktops, why not allow consumers to buy parts and build their own customized laptops?

Currently, ram and hard drives are readily available for laptops, the only real big leap would be getting motherboards to be customizable with graphic cards etc. and the never clean, near surgical process of all the wiring in between the screen etc.

I have had this idea (As well as a custom pc company) running through my head for awhile now, but how feasible do people think this entire thing is in the coming years?

A great example could be the Alienware pc’s that already allow users to specify different video cards to be bought and placed in, as well as switchable hard drives.
Again this is more of an idea for the future. Currently it definitely isn’t feasible, though If things keep up I wouldn’t be surprised to see for availability of product. thanks for all the feedback everyone

Well, with laptops its quite different from PC Customizing. Seeing as you can’t just purchase laptop shells like if you were to buy a desktop’s tower case. Parts for laptops are as highly offered like PC items. The only changeable items in a laptop that anyone can do are mainly the hard drive and the ram. I also never heard of any laptop graphics cards being for sale at computer stores, so it has to be integrated. Than there is the calculating the heat. You need to find proper cooling for the machine otherwise it’ll just overheat and blow up. Its a good idea, but may be a little costy for consumers to do so.

the problem with customizable lap tops is that the people who buy laptops dont know anything about computers and wont know what to do, besides lap tops are bad even the most expensive gaming lap tops can be out done by a cheap custom pc built by someone with decent computer knowledge. Also the notebook would be bulky and heavy thus eliminating the ‘laptop’ feel for the user.
Ok idea just no where to go with it, i think alienware has the right idea but its not going to get much better then that if at all.

I have thought of this many times, and currently I cant imagine any laptop as customizable as your talking about that wouldn’t be fairly large and bulky. Although it would be very possible to make just empty laptop cases with the attached monitors and pre-wiring that you could buy from any hardware retailer. (I wouldn’t be surprised if they already came up with something like this)

Why does Dell keep on changing their online customizable features for laptops?

i mean, they change it every 2 weeks!! and it sucks everytime..in comparison

last year for the INSPIRON 15 we could put in:

256mb-512mb video cards
fingerprint reader
webcam+mic
4cell, 6 cell, 9 cell battery
+some other stuff

and plus better features..but now theres no fingerprint reader..only a 1.3 mp webcam..only 6cell and 9 cell feature…and theres only a 256 mb video card for customzing..

and it changes every 2 weeks..coupl weeks ago you had to pay $ 30 for webcam..but now its included

becoz they believe in change !!

Might you be better asking Dell that question? Probably the features weren’t popular enough or people weren’t prepared to pay the extra money.

Simply put, economics. There are 5 reasons inherent here:

1. Technology advances result in lower price of components (see number 5)
2. Demand – people want it (see number 5)
3. Sales – company and sales people work on commission. So they push manufacturing to delay or add components to push sales. (see number 5)
4. Change – changing things up encourages people to come back for another look. (umm see number 5)
5. Marketing – See all the above

dell marketing strategy is to give the best among all the compared brands
the inspiron brand laptop was focused against the hp models,the sony,Toshiba’s a year ago so they they best options among all brands
on the other hand inspiron lower models were focused on the likes of compaq,acer,and other cheaper brands
the gave inspiron a confusing status
it neither could be considered a a high end one nor the low end one
people got really confused while buying this brand and begin buying other laptops
also with so many options the review of dell laptops didn’t gave exact picture

dell realized its mistake
it soon came with its studio series which focused on hp,sony,lenovo and TOSHIBA
but slowly begin focusing inspiron for compaq,acer and other cheaper
so slowly inspiron lost its all good features that were shifted to studio laptops
at this time inspiron is a entry level laptop competing cheaper brands
so its features have changed
now all entry level laptops have webcam so dell has re included it
dell gives those things that are available in larger volumes in the market
to maximize profit
that’s their second strategy
